Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, professionally known as Joe Exotic and nicknamed "The Tiger King", is an American media personality, businessman, former police chief and criminal who operated the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma from 1998 to 2018.
Apart from Kansas, Exotic has lived in other parts of the US, including Wyoming and Texas.

He was born Joseph Allen Schreibvogel to Francis Schreibvogel and Shirley Schreibvogel, both of whom came from wealthy farming families. He has four siblings.
When he was 5 years old, he was repeatedly raped by an older boy at his own home, he said in the Discovery Digital documentary "Joe Exotic: Before He Was King."
He was in fifth grade, he had an ulcer disease, he said in "Joe Exotic: Before He Was King."
When he was 14, he and his family moved to Wyoming and then to Pilot Point, Texas.
He dated a woman named Kim. She gave birth to their son Brandon Chappell in 1982. In the same year, he graduated from high school and became a police officer in Eastvale, Texas. When he was 19, he was promoted to Chief of Police.
In 1989, he and his older brother Garold Wayne Schreibvogel, the only brother he was close to, bought a pet store in Texas. In 1997, Garold died of injuries he sustained in a car accident and his family won money from a settlement, which he used to buy a farm in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, USA. He turned it into a zoo called the Garold Wayne Exotic Animal Memorial Park, which became famous for its tigers, lions, liars and other exotic animals. Because he bred tigers, he was accused of animal cruelty by several animal rights activists, including Carole Baskin, who owns the tiger reserve called the Big Cat Rescue in Florida, USA.
In 2001, his first known partner Brian Rhyne died of complications from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

In December 2014, he, Travis Maldonado, and unofficially married in a three-way marriage ceremony. In October 2017, Maldonado accidentally shot himself in the head. On December 11, 2017, he married Dillon Passage. Later he legally changed his name to Joseph Maldonado-Passage.
Tiger King Crimes and Charges
On September 5, 2018, a federal grand jury returned a charge accusing him of hiring two people to kill a woman in Florida in November 2017. Unaware of him, one of the two people he hired was has a secret agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
On November 7, 2018, a replacement indictment accused him of falsifying forms involving the sale of game in interstate trade, killing five tigers in October 2017 to make way for cage space for other big cats and tiger cubs in interstate trade sold and offered to sell. During a trial that began on March 25, 2019, a jury heard evidence that he hired Allen Glover to kill Baskin. The evidence showed that in July 2016, he started looking for someone to hire to kill Baskin and on December 8, 2017, he met the secret FBI agent.
On January 22, 2020, U.S. District Judge Scott L. Palk sentenced him to 22 years in federal prison and ordered him to spend three years of released probation after being released from prison. He was then 56 years old.
Joe Exotic Awards and Achievements
His life was the subject of "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness," a documentary mini-series released on March 20, 2020 on Netflix.
Led by Eric Love, his legal team filed a 257-page application for remission. However, he was among the more than 100 pardons and commutations issued on January 20, 2020 by 45th US President Donald Trump.

Now "Tiger King" Joe Exotic, has been sentenced to 21 years behind bars for a murder-for-rent attempt on a rival, an animal rights activist.
Sentence that is given to him in 2020, when he was first convicted, it is reduced by one year.
Exotic, 58, has always denied the crime.
